The Monsterfin70S is a 7ft short casting rod developed to forcibly pull large yellowtail (dekamasa) and GT from shallow reefs.
The development concept is "hook and stop."
This short rod has been designed to jerk lures and work sinking pencils, in addition to existing diving pencils. It can fully cast large plugs up to about 180g. Due to its short and lightweight design, it’s easy to jerk lures.
The butt power is designed to be far stronger than the Laulau83GTS, with a robust butt section capable of handling the runs of large bluefish. It has an overwhelming breaking strength of 20kg (based on factory tests). The rod is also designed to make undercasting easy in situations that require it.
This rod was developed as a dedicated short rod for controlling big tuna games with large plugs, as well as for taking on large yellowtail and GT in shallow waters. It thoroughly pursues operability and lightness for long-duration lure action, excellent casting performance with large plugs, and blanks that apply pressure to fish.
Even for offshore fishing, like bass or sea bass fishing, the desire to manually control and enjoy jerking or twitching lures led to the development of the MF70S. Most typical offshore rods are in the 8ft range and are too long, heavy, and difficult to maneuver for extended periods of lure jerking.
Since the MF70S is light in weight and short in length, continuous jerking is possible. As it is still a casting rod, the tip section retains flexibility similar to the Laulau83GTS, allowing the blanks to maximize their repelling force to launch lures far.
After hooking, the rod’s strong butt section applies pressure even in shallow areas, allowing anglers to take control. Being a short rod, it also makes fighting fish easier. It can handle tuna up to 100kg without issues.
The MF70S is not just a stiff rod, but an offshore short rod for aggressive fishing. It combines sharpness that directly transmits the power from jerking large minnows to the lure. This enables a manual feel, allowing for the desired lure action.
For reels, the rod uses MN40 guides, making it ideal for STELLA 14000 to 18000 models in terms of casting distance. When catching a large 19.5kg yellowtail in less than 20m of shallow water, PE10 line and a STELLA 18000 with almost full drag were used. For shallow yellowtail fishing or GT shallow games, where you’re not letting the fish run, PE10 with 165m on a 14000 reel should suffice.
With a drag of 15kg, you can comfortably fight the fish. At first, it might be difficult to achieve casting distance with the MF70S due to its short length and stiff blanks. To achieve good casting distance, it’s essential to fully load the lure’s weight onto the blank, and when done correctly, the casting distance can exceed expectations.
For big freshwater game fishing in South America, we recommend the Monsterfin70S over the Laulau83GTS. The reason is that you’ll often be fighting fish from a boat, and a short rod makes it easier to handle large fish.
