Product Specifications:
MP-55: 55mm / 9.5g
Product Introduction:
The Mudgey Popper was developed as a versatile topwater plug capable of handling everything from covering large areas of water to precisely targeting pinpoint spots.
Its body balance has been meticulously tuned to deliver consistent performance across a wide range of techniques, from popping to slow and fast retrieves. Regardless of the angler’s skill level, the MP-55 is easy to operate while producing highly refined actions.
The unusually wide lip for a popper firmly grabs the water, minimizing forward movement during popping. Combined with the fixed rear weight, this design gives the lure extremely quick startup and allows it to produce a wide variety of actions while remaining in the strike zone.
This makes the MP-55 particularly effective when you want to keep a lure working over a pinpoint target for an extended period, such as under overhanging cover, along grass lines, or beside steep drop-offs on reservoirs.
During a straight retrieve, the MP-55 produces an aggressive wobbling action with strong body roll. By adjusting rod movement and retrieve speed, anglers can freely control the lure’s running depth as well as the surface disturbance and wake it creates.
When combined with a twitch, the feather on the rear hook moves softly and naturally while the lure produces repeated knocking actions with very little forward movement.
Large Line-Eye Snap
The large snap supplied with the lure is designed to work together with the deeply recessed front hook eye to prevent the hooks from catching the fishing line when using the MP-55 as a popper or when combining a straight retrieve with twitching.
For this reason, using the supplied snap as-is is recommended for the best performance.
Recommended Tackle
The ideal setup would be:
Fast-taper rod
Medium-power baitcasting tackle
10–14 lb nylon line
This combination provides excellent control and allows the MP-55 to perform its full range of actions.
How to Use:
Popping:
Because of its design, the MP-55 tends to dive easily during the popping action, with many strikes occurring immediately after the pop.
Rather than relying on explosive surface strikes, its diving motion encourages fish to inhale the lure, making it highly effective for triggering more subtle bites.
Twitching:
Twitching is particularly effective when a fish follows the lure during a straight retrieve but refuses to commit.
Sharp movements cause the lure to dart from side to side, triggering a reaction strike.
This technique is especially effective immediately after the lure clears cover or another structure.
Straight Retrieve:
Although it is classified as a popper, the MP-55 is also an exceptionally capable crankbait-style lure.
It is highly effective not only around shorelines and cover, but also across open-water areas.
