Product Introduction:
The concept behind the ORKNEY80 was to create a rod that combines exceptional versatility with an engaging character that never becomes tiresome to use.

From the beginning, the rod was designed around a Regular Fast action that closely approaches a true Regular bend. Looking across today's eging market, countless rod variations are available, but with the ORKNEY80, the goal was to create a rod whose appeal grows stronger the more time you spend fishing with it.

For that reason, the blank was intentionally tuned to avoid an excessively fast tip action while still maintaining the crispness and responsiveness anglers expect from a modern eging rod.

Thanks to the Magnus construction method, the tip and belly sections bend smoothly and progressively while retaining excellent backbone. This seamless transition flows naturally into a powerful butt section, creating a rod that can be loaded deeply for long casts while still allowing delicate presentations with lightweight squid jigs.

At the same time, the rod delivers the crisp feedback and sensitivity characteristic of high-modulus materials, providing excellent transmission of lure action, bottom composition, and subtle bites.

One of the most important themes behind the ORKNEY80 was creating a rod that anglers would never grow tired of casting and working.

In eging, “casting” is only part of the equation. The word also embodies the distinctive jerking motions that define squid fishing techniques.

The ORKNEY80 responds faithfully to different inputs depending on which section of the blank is engaged:

• Tip section: Delicate and precise action control
• Belly section: Smooth and balanced lure manipulation
• Butt section: Powerful and aggressive jerking performance

This allows anglers to adapt their presentations freely according to conditions, fishing styles, and personal preferences.

Its precisely balanced 8-foot length offers excellent handling and versatility.

Whether fishing confined shorelines, tight structures, or performing boat eging where casting space is limited, the rod remains easy to maneuver. Yet when fully loaded, the belly and butt sections store and release energy efficiently, delivering impressive casting distance and power.

The butt section deserves special mention for its remarkable strength.

While the designer generally avoids lifting large squid directly to prevent tearing, repeated lifting tests with squid around 800g were successfully completed during development.

(When lifting, avoid raising the rod excessively vertical. Instead, allow the entire blank to bend smoothly and distribute the load evenly.)

Some anglers may assume that a rod described as "soft" is unsuitable for large squid.

However, the ORKNEY80 was designed with clearly defined roles for each section of the blank. During the fight, it demonstrates exceptional lifting power and resilience, often feeling far more powerful than its specifications suggest.

This flexibility becomes a major advantage, allowing anglers to fully enjoy the fight of everything from 300g-sized squid to trophy-class specimens exceeding one kilogram.

The largest squid landed during testing weighed well over 2.5kg. Even at maximum casting distance, the rod delivered solid hook-setting power, guided the squid safely around rocky structures, and maintained full control throughout the fight.

Another understated but extremely important characteristic is the rod's overall resilience and follow-through during landing situations.

When targeting large squid, it remains easy to control the fish even after a missed landing attempt. With average-sized catches, the powerful butt section also makes lifting or sliding squid onto rocky shorelines much easier.

Every cast.
Every jerk.
Every fish hooked and every deep bend loaded into the blank.

The ORKNEY80 reveals more of its character with each outing.

That is the rod we set out to create.

Target Species & Applications

The ORKNEY80 was primarily developed as an eging rod.

Extensive field testing was conducted throughout western and northern Kyushu, Japan, where it proved capable of handling virtually every squid species commonly targeted with eging techniques.

Whether targeting large spring squid or fishing throughout the summer, autumn, and winter seasons, the rod consistently delivered excellent results, demonstrating true all-season capability.

As eging rods are among the most versatile tools in saltwater lure fishing, the ORKNEY80 naturally extends beyond squid fishing applications.

Its balanced action, practical length, and broad adaptability perfectly align with Finch's philosophy:

"If you could only bring one rod."

From squid fishing to a wide variety of saltwater gamefish, the ORKNEY80 is designed to be a true multi-purpose companion wherever your adventures take you.
